Michael Sullivan of Market By the Bay
Michael Sullivan is a true local, born in Mobile and raised in Daphne. Inspired by his entrepreneurial mom, who owned and operated her own bakery and sandwich shop, Michael attributes his passion for the culinary world to her influence.
Local Roots and Early Inspiration
Michael has come full circle with Market By The Bay, a place that holds significant memories for him. He was one of the first cooks when the business originally opened as LeJeune’s Market by the Bay. Known affectionately as “Sulli,” he honed his skills and learned the ins and outs of the hospitality industry in the kitchens of popular spots on the Eastern Shore.

Gaining New Perspectives
After gaining valuable experience in the corporate world with the culinary division of a Senior Living Operation, Michael found himself in New York during the height of the Covid pandemic. This unique experience allowed him to explore the city without the usual hustle and bustle.
Reviving a Local Favorite
Upon returning to Daphne, Michael discovered that the LeJeune’s were closing their Market By The Bay. Seizing the opportunity, he approached Harry Johnson and Garret DeLuca of Manci’s/Buster’s with a partnership idea to revive the beloved seafood spot. With their combined efforts, they successfully reopened Market By The Bay, much to the delight of the community.
A Family Affair and Community Spirit
Staying true to its roots, the revitalized Market By The Bay continues to serve fresh, locally sourced seafood. They have retained the same delicious gumbo, seafood breading, and even some of the original cooks. Michael and his team, including veteran employees Horace and Nancy, are always brainstorming new ideas to enhance their offerings, keeping the menu dynamic and exciting. Michael’s mom also contributes by making all of the desserts,
adding a personal touch to the delightful selection of grab-and-go favorites.

Market By The Bay is located at 29145 US-98 in Daphne.

Market By The Bay is more than just a restaurant; it’s a family affair that embodies the spirit of the Eastern Shore and serves truly exceptional food.
